Facilitated by Veronica Figueroa Velez

Art Therapist, Community Activist, and Grief Workshop Facilitator

Born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, Veronica Figueroa Velez discovered the power of art at age 14 through mural and 3D projects at her church. After moving to Madison, WI, in 1994, she found solace in art amidst the challenges of being far from home. Art became not only her personal outlet, but also her pathway to community engagement.

Veronica earned an Associate Degree in Graphic Design and Liberal Arts from Madison College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Therapy from Edgewood College in 2014. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Art Therapy at Edgewood College.

With a passion for using art to heal and empower, Veronica has worked with diverse community groups to foster connection and create positive change. She believes in the transformative power of creative expression to address social justice issues and promote personal growth.

In recent years, Veronica has focused much of her energy on trauma and grief, guiding workshop participants through their emotional journeys by using art as a medium to process loss. Her workshops create a safe, compassionate environment for individuals to confront grief, express their emotions, and begin the healing process. Veronica’s approach emphasizes that creativity not only aids in the expression of sorrow but also facilitates the transformation of pain into personal growth and empowerment. Through these workshops, she continues her mission to help others connect with their inner strength and begin the difficult work of healing.

Veronica’s work is a testament to the belief that our originality is not just a source of expression—it is a powerful tool for survival and thriving in the face of adversity. Through art, she helps others navigate their trauma and grief and emerge with new perspectives, grounded in self-compassion and resilience.
